Title: The evolution of a reference fusion breeder reactor blanket design

Conference · · Proc., Intersoc. Energy Convers. Eng. Conf.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5435581

Fusion breeder reactors can dramatically impact future energy supply requirements by providing an inexhaustible supply of fissile fuel for conventional fission power reactors. A goal of the DOE-funded Fusion Breeder Program during FY82 is the development of an attractive reference blanket design concept for further study based upon a non-fissioning neutron multiplication, or fission suppressed, mode of operation. In this paper several fission suppressed blanket concepts are described and the evolution of a reference blanket concept over the past three years is discussed. A candidate blanket which is being developed as a reference design is identified and is briefly described.
