Floating production, storage and off-loading vessels (FPSOs) are increasingly popular in the oil/gas industry as an economic alternative to traditional offshore platforms. Similar to conventional platforms, these FPSOs require compact and lightweight equipment to drive compressors and to produce power. It is natural that compact and reliable aeroderivative gas turbines are being applied to several of these FPSOs which will be moored in the North Sea. For instance, the Shell Curlew FPSO will use a GE LM1600 aeroderivative gas turbine for compressor drive. The gas turbine was manufactured by GE Marine and Industrial Engines (M and I) at its Evendale, OH plant. The LM1600 was sold by M and I`s Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) European Gas Turbines (EGT), and will be placed into a compressor drive package by EGT at its Lincoln manufacturing plant in the United Kingdom. The paper describes the installation.
