Design and installation of computer systems to meet the requirements of 10 CFR 73. 55. [Computer-managed systems]
The Pacific Northwest Laboratory has studied the design and installation of computer-managed systems that can help nuclear power plant licensees to meet the physical security requirements of 10 CFR 73.55 (for access control, alarm monitoring, and alarm recording). Two objectives were to study the power plant security functions that could be aided by a computer-managed physical security system and to evaluate the safety and security considerations of such a system. A further objective was to develop guidance on system design, selection, and installation. The design guidance includes safety and security requirements, design alternatives, computer security, workspace design, and user interface design. Guidance is also provided on writing a system specification for procurement, bid review procedures, and site preparation. 52 refs.
