Evaluation of dynamic stress distribution in a rock mass during breaking by blasting

Actual observations and specific calculations indicate that the stressed state of a rock mass close to underground structures depends to a considerable extent on shape. A typical feature of the drilling and blasting method for breaking is rapid failure of a certain volume of rock which leads to a change in the shape of the working and consequently to dynamic stress redistribution. This transition process may promote the occurrence of rock bursts. On the basis of solving problems within the limits of elasticity theory a study is made of the stressed state of a rock mass with an instantaneous change in the cross section of a working.
