Oblique corrections to the [ital W] width

The lowest-order expression for the partial [ital W] width to [ital e][nu], [Gamma]([ital W][r arrow][ital e][nu])=[ital G][sub [mu]][ital M[ital W]][sup 3]/(6[pi] [radical]2) , has no oblique radiative corrections from new physics if the measured [ital W] mass is used. Here [ital G][sub [mu]]=(1.166 39[plus minus]0.000 02)[times]10[sup [minus]5] GeV/[ital c][sup 2] is the muon decay constant. For the present value of [ital M][sub [ital W]]=(80.14[plus minus]0.27) GeV/[ital c][sup 2], and with [ital m][sub [ital t]]=140 GeV/[ital c][sup 2], one expects [Gamma]([ital W][r arrow][ital e][nu])=(224.4[plus minus]2.3) MeV. The total width [Gamma][sub tot]([ital W]) is also expected to lack oblique corrections from new physics, so that [Gamma][sub tot]([ital W])/[Gamma]([ital W][r arrow][ital e][nu])=3+6[1+[l brace][alpha][sub [ital s]]([ital M][sub [ital W]])/[pi][r brace]]. Present data are consistent with this prediction.
