Efficient laser action is reported for the (F/sub 2/ /sup +/)/sub A/ center in KI with tunability now extending from 2.38 to 3.99 ..mu..m. For the F/sub 2/ /sup +/ and (F/sub 2/ /sup +/)/sub A/ centers coexisting in KI, the combined lasing range is 1.98--3.85 ..mu..m. The 1.73-..mu..m line of a pulsed Er:YLF laser pumped both centers simultaneously.
