Fuel control

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5430929
This patent describes a fuel control for a gas turbine engine including a burner, fuel being supplied to the burner through a main fuel line having a shutoff valve therein, the shutoff valve under normal engine operating conditions, being opened to allow fuel flow to the burner and closed to shut off the fuel flow. The improvement described here is characterized by: a bypass line communicating at opposite ends thereof with the main fuel line for shunting fuel flow in the main fuel line around the shutoff valve; means disposed in the bypass line for restricting flow therethrough to a valve sufficient to maintain at sea level, only minimal positive thrust output of the engine; and control means communicating with the bypass line and operatively connected to the shutoff valve, the control means, under normal operating conditions, effecting the blocking of the bypass line and, under impending overspeed conditions, effecting a simultaneous closing of the shutoff valve and an unblocking of the bypass line to shut the restricted flow around the shutoff valve to the engine.
