Energy and economic effects of residential energy conservation programs

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5430366
A detailed simulation model of residential energy consumption is used to evaluate the energy and direct economic effects of several conservation programs: appliance efficiency targets, thermal standards for new construction, and retrofit of existing housing units. Results suggest that each of these programs saves energy and saves money. For example, these programs could cut energy use in the year 2000 by 15 to 25 percent and save households $25 to $45 billion between now and 2000.
