Lambda nonmesonic decay in the hybrid quark-hadron model

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:5429766
A model delimiting coordinate space into a quark region and a hadron region is used to calculate ..lambda.. hypernuclear lifetimes. Both nuclear matter and finite nuclei are discussed. For nuclear matter, an approximate solution of the Bethe-Goldstone equation is used in the initial state. For finite nuclei, a pure configuration shell model wave function is used. A simple Eikonal distortion is used in the final state. It is shown that theoretical lifetimes are obtained in agreement with present experiment. Also, a coupled channels scattering formalism is used to search for an S = -1 dibaryon. It is shown that the model used here does not lead to the prediction of such a q/sup 6/ resonance.
