Title: Development of permanent magnets based on rare earth -- cobalt alloys. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5429397

Powder milling, sintering, and extrusion tests were carried out on vacuum-melted alloys to determine the optimum processing conditions for the production of permanent magnets from Co/sub 5/CeMM, Co/sub 5/Sm, and Co/sub 5-x/Cu/sub x/CMM alloys. Co--Cu--(Fe) CeMM-alloys were tested for their suitability as cast magnets. The investigations included constitution research in the Co--CeMM system, the determination of the milling and sintering characteristics and of the magnetic properties. Energy product data led to the conclusion that an economical production, using simple manufacturing steps, of permanent magnets based on CoRE alloys is possible.
