Journal Article · · Univ. Mich. Bus. Rev.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5429275
A Delphi survey was conducted to determine the demand for solar products, the parameters affecting demand, and the roles of business and government in the commercialization of solar energy products. Of the 660 individuals surveyed, 216 responded and 147 answered more indepth questions in a second survey. Publicity, energy costs, government support, and product quality were identified as the major factors which influenced demand for solar products. Demand inhibitors included the lack of government support, high initial product costs, low benefit/cost ratios, and low product quality. Government actions cited for advancing commercialization of solar energy products included research and development funding, public education, and tax incentives. Businesses could also conduct research and provide consumer education. Competition was cited as a factor resulting in lower prices and improved product quality.
