The superior activity maintenance of PtRe/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} to Pt/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} under industrial reforming conditions has been attributed to various causes. XRD evidence of PtRe allow supported on silica strongly correlates the observed deep hydrogenolysis activity of PtRe/SiO{sub 2} to mixed PtRe ensembles. A high activity for methane production from hydrocarbons has also been observed on PtRe/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}. The surface mobility of Re oxide, likely Re{sub 2}O{sub 7}, over the alumina surface seems to be important for the extent of alloy formation. Whereas Pt/zeolites have been studied extensively, much less research has been focused on Re-containing zeolites. It is the main objective of this study to investigate the catalytic behavior of PtRe/Y zeolites. Additional information concerning the mobility of Re (oxide) on zeolites has been obtained from experiments involving dilution of the catalysts with inert particles.
