Although the number of North American-owned hydro turbine companies has declined considerably from the past, those active in today's market are surviving by finding the right niche. Two companies which stand out in particular because of their commitment to North American-based technology and design in the medium and large-scale turbine market are American Hydro Corporation, of York, Pennsylvania and Hydro West Group Inc. of Bellevue, Washington. Other North American turbine companies - such as Niagara Turbine Systems, Flygt Corp., Byron Jackson Products and Canyon Industries - have carved out a niche in the small turbine market. All six companies and their main products are described.
