Operation of a photovoltaic power source for a military communications system

Photovoltaic (PV) power systems are currently providing power for radio repeater stations on a remote mountaintop at Camp Pendleton, Calif. The operation and maintenance (O and M) performance of PV systems are presented and discussed. Performance data include load current, system voltage, insolation and temperature histories. O and M procedures are discussed, and recommendations for preventive maintenance are presented.
