Odd-numbered carbon-only anion clusters, C[sub 53]-, C[sub 55]-, C[sub 57]-, and C[sub 59]-, are observed in laser desorption ionization of C[sub 60]O obtained in reactions of C[sub 60] with O[sub 3]. These odd-numbered carbon clusters are suggestive of the presence of the ether form monoxide resulting from oxygen insertion into the C-C bond shared by adjacent five- and six-membered rings. 18 refs., 4 figs.
