Process for making olefins

This patent describes a process for making the olefins in high yield. It comprises maintaining a reaction mixture comprised of a carboxylic acid wherein the carboxylic acid has at least three carbon atoms and at least one {beta}-hydrogen atom, a carboxylic acid, anhydride, and a Group VIII metal-containing catalyst or a copper-containing catalyst at a temperature of from about 100{degrees} C to about 300{degrees} C.
