The gain of a CO/sub 2/ gasdynamic laser has been computed in detail for partial inversion at the (10/sup 0/0, 02/sup 0/0)/sub i/I--(01/sup 1/0) transition of the carbon dioxide molecule. The calculations apply for various adiabatic recovery pressures and temperatures, for various heights of the critical cross section, for various degrees of nozzle expansion, and for various values of the carbon dioxide concentration in the binary mixture with argon. The allowable concentration of water as an impurity is 0.1%.
