A still for cracking oil includes a plurality of banks of tubes adapted to contain oil that is to be cracked, transversely-disposed headers at the ends of these tubes communicating with the tubes of the respective banks. The tubes are arranged in a passageway, and means are provided for causing products of combustion to circulate through the passageway longitudinally of the tubes. Endless chains are arranged in oppositely disposed tubes of the respective banks and sheaves or the like are included in the headers around which the chains travel. Means are provided for actuating the chains so as to remove carbon that collects on the interior of the tubes. A carbon collection chamber is included at the bottom side of one header. An outlet from this chamber and means operable from the exterior of this chamber for discharging the carbon that collects in the chamber through the outlet are provided.
