Technique for sputtering energy conserving coatings

TiO/sub 2//Ag/TiO/sub 2/ has been deposited on lamp envelopes by rf sputtering. Its high visible transmittance and high infrared reflectance make it suitable for incandescent lamp use. Optical and physical properties were evaluated along with uniformity of coating thickness. Energy savings of about 55% have been demonstrated for equal lumen output. 12 refs.
