A general discussion of the processing of deinked furnishes with flotation and washing is presented with emphasis on the effect of consistency on the overall energy requirements. This relationship is examined with respect to coarse and fine screening, as well as other major equipment normally encountered in these systems. Also, there is a brief discussion of the location of the various pieces of equipment within the system in order to optimize the consistency-energy consumption parameters.
