The research and development of high efficiency space heating and auxiliary systems for solar heated houses are reviewed. The Brookhaven National Laboratory has been testing heating units with lower fuel consumption and higher burning efficiency. Some of the systems under investigation include: a high efficiency air atomization oil burner, blue flame oil burner and boiler, a low-input, variable-firing rate, oil-fired apparatus, a variable-firing rate power burner for high-efficiency gas furnaces, a high-efficiency pulse combustion gas furnace, an ultrasonic vaporization oil burner, a high-efficiency warm air furnace which utilizes heat pipes, a self-powered gas furnace, a Schladitz oil burner, and a pulse combustion gas burner.
