Senate hearings on April 13 and 14, 1978 heard testimony from DOE, other government agencies, and representatives of the electric power industry on the budget proposal (S. 2692) for civilian programs. Energy production areas under discussion were liquid fuels, naval petroleum reserves, the coal loan guarantee program, uranium resource assessment, power plant regulations, and coal utilization. Several policy issues, particularly the power-marketing aspects of DOE were examined. Other issues which drew testimony were the speed in which the Western Area Power Administration was set up and regulatory issues. The statements of witnesses are accompanied by supporting documents.
