Various forms of an inhomogeneous electric discharge, namely steady, AC, and discharge in a decaying plasma, are numerically investigated. Steady-state solutions are obtained, taking into account three-body adhesion. It is found that in a non-self-contained steady discharge the distribution of E and q+, q- is homogeneous, except for a narrow cathode region of the positive column. The proportion of ionic currents is considerably less than in a self-contained discharge even at large specific powers. Furthermore, an AC discharge of frequency of 10 kHz creates a more uniform medium than a steady self-contained discharge with less heating of the gas. 6 references.
