Leaf diffusion resistance responses of three petunia cultivars to ozone and/or sulfur dioxide

Journal Article · · J. Air Pollut. Control Assoc.; (United States)
To determine the response of leaf stomata to ozone and/or sulfur dioxide under two humidity regimes, leaf diffusion resistance of plants from three cultivars of petunia (Petunia hybrida) of differing ozone sensitivity was measured. At about 50% relative humidity, exposure to ozone and/or SO2 resulted in rapid increases in leaf diffusion resistance. At about 90% humidity, only slight increases in the leaf diffusion resistance were noted. The maximum leaf diffusion resistance reached with continued exposure to the pollutants was similar for all cultivars. (6 graphs, 26 references, 1 table)
