Kinetics of oxygen evolution of oxide electrodes of the ruthenium-titanium oxide anode type

Polarization curves were taken to evaluate the effect of the nature of the anion on the course of the anodic evolution of oxygen. They were taken on the same ruthenium titanium oxide anodes (ORTA) electrode in acidic and basic solutions of perchlorate, sulfate, and phoshate and in acidic chloride solutins. Potentials were measured relative to a reversible hydrogen electrode in the same solution. The experimental results are presented. A somewhat increased overvoltage of oxygen evolution on an ORTA is observed in the presence of ions being more strongly absorbed and in this sense there is qualitative agreement between the kinetic and adsorption data.
