The binary encounter electrons produced in 167 MeV Bi[sup q+] on H[sub 2] and He collisions were measured at zero degrees with respect to the beam direction. In this paper, we present the initial projectile charge (q[sub i]) dependence of the intensity of the binary encounter electrons in the region of q[sub i]/Z[sub 1][lt]0.4, Z[sub 1] projectile atomic number. In the case of the heavy projectile and in this q[sub i] region, the intensity of the binary encounter electrons increase as the q[sub i] increases. The peak energy shift of the binary encounter electrons is explained by the Bohr-Lindhard model.
