Gamow-Teller strength functions from nucleon scattering experiments

Conference · · AIP Conf. Proc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5401970

The spin-isospin structure of nuclear excitations up to approx.50 MeV has been studied using (n,p), (p,p') and (p,n) reactions at TRIUMF. At 200--400 MeV the L = 0 isovector spin-transfer component of the cross section is closely related to the Gamow-Teller strength function. Results are discussed which have implications for Gamow-Teller quenching in (sd) and (fp) shell nuclei, for the Ikeda sum rule, and for the importance of 2particle-2hole correlations in nuclear wavefunctions.
