Sensitization of Nd/sup 3 +/ luminescence by Cr/sup 3 +/ in Li-La phosphate glasses

The absorption spectra, fluorescent spectra, and fluorescent lifetime of Li-La phosphate glasses are measured. Radiative transfer of energy between Cr/sup 3 +/..-->..Nd/sup 3 +/ ions in Li-La phosphate glasses is studied. Energy transfer efficiency from Cr/sup 3 +/..-->..Nd/sup 3 +/ ions in Li-La phosphate is 38%, the optimum doping concentration of Nd/sup 3 +/ is 2 x 10/sup 21/ cm/sup -3/, and Cr/sub 2/O/sub 3/ content is > or =0.1 wt%.
