Hydrogen on Ta(110): Photoemission study using synchrotron radiation

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. B: Condens. Matter; (United States)
The adsorption of H and Ta(110) is studied by photoemission with the use of synchrotron radiation. The energy positions of the H-induced states observed at normal exit, at -2.2 and -6.5 eV, do not disperse with photon energy which is consistent with a two-dimensional layer of adsorbed H in contrast with previous reports. An otherwise prohibited bulk excitation is found to occur when hydrogen is adsorbed. These results are discussed and compared with bulk hydrogen-uptake data.
