Production logging as an integral part of horizontal-well transient-pressure test

This paper discusses a horizontal-well transient-pressure-test analysis method with emphasis on the use of production-interval and -profile data. The technique significantly enhances interpretation quality and answer uniqueness. The technique can be applied to specialized plots and to type-curve history-matching methods. First, the authors discuss the horizontal-well transient response, and then they illustrate development of a technique to integrate production-interval with production-profile data. The proposed technique can be applied to specialized plots, type-curve and history-matching methods, and well-test design by way of forward modeling. The technique is illustrated further by a field example, where it is used to optimize test design and to enhance interpretation answers. To the best of their knowledge, the example they present is the first one that integrates production logging data with transient pressure to perform the interpretation successfully. The analysis software they used is the Schlumberger Transient Analysis Report (STAR). The example presented clearly demonstrates that hardware and software are available to design, test, and analyze horizontal wells successfully.
