An innovative heat-recovery system for Paradise Steam Plant's limestone FGD system will reheat the scrubbed flue gas from TVA's coal-fired boilers. The closed loop, circulating water, heat-recovery and reheat system installed by Chemico Air Pollution Control Co., will operate below the acid point and use three different materials of construction for the heat exchanger tubes. Water passing through Inconel 625 (ASTM 8442) tubes in a flue gas economizer for heat recovery will lower the inlet flue gas temperature to the FGD system from 305 to 252F; the heated water will then pass through 317L stainless and Cor-Ten tubes in the FGD reheater, reheating the scrubbed flue gas from 122 to 170F. Background information on the selection of this system and further details of the heat recovery system and the evaluation of Inconel 625 for this application are given.
