Monitoring and controlling hydrogen sulfide (H/sub 2/S) in a natural-gas transmission environment requires a comprehensive program. Here are the components for such a program along with a discussion of elements of Nova's gas-transmission unit's control efforts. Nova's Alberta gas-transmission division (AGTD) is responsible for the gathering, measuring, quality control, and transmission of Alberta natural gas exported from the province. More than 75% of marketed Canadian natural-gas production is transported through Nova's facilities. Specifications for limiting and control of hydrogen sulfide (H/sub 2/S) concentrations exist for virtually every company in the business of producing, transporting, or distributing natural gas. These specifications are driven by a number of factors, each of which influences the degree of monitoring and control required.
