Regenerator cross arm seal assembly
In a gas turbine engine having block means defining a pressurized air passage and a hot exhaust gas passage and a cross arm partition separating portions of the air and the exhaust passages, a regenerator disc on the block means intersecting the air and the exhaust passages and rotatable to transfer heat from the exhaust gas to the pressurized air and including an inboard surface, and rim seal means between the disc inboard surface and the block means operative to prevent pressurized air and exhaust gas leakage around the periphery of the disc, an improved cross arm seal assembly is described comprising: a platform generally extensive with the cross arm partition disposed between the latter and the disc inboard surface, a porous and compliant support layer on a surface of the platform facing the disc inboard surface, a seal and wear layer on the support layer defining a barrier to gas passage and sealingly engaging the disc inboard surface, dike means between the seal and wear layer and the platform preventing communication through the support layer between the air and the exhaust passages, seal means between the platform and the cross arm partition preventing communication between the air and the exhaust passages across the cross arm partition, and means on the block means and on the platform operative to direct air from the pressurized air passage to and through the support layer thereby to cool the seal and wear layer.
