Delayed fission

The experimental investigations of nuclei whose daughter products after K capture or ..beta../sup -/ decay undergo fission from an excited state (delayed fission) are reviewed. The main theoretical ideas about the process of delayed fission, the possibility of determining the heights of the fission barriers from the measured probabilities p/sub df/, and the part played by delayed fission in nucleosynthesis in pulsed neutron fluxes and the r process are considered.
