Interaction of neutrinos with relic majorons

As the temperature of the universe is lowered by cooling during nucleosynthesis, the universe becomes populated with relic majorons. The mean free path of solar (or cosmic) neutrinos in scattering by an isotropic majoron gas in moving, for example, from the Sun to the Earth is calculated. The mean free path is found to be less than the distance from the Sun to the Earth. If the coupling constant ..cap alpha../sub M/ is greater than 10/sup -4/ the relic majorons can strongly affect the distribution of the neutrino fluxes from supernova bursts.
