Survey of Asia`s energy prices. World Bank Technical Paper No. 248

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:538833
Provides survey results of the first cross-country comparison of energy pricing in Asia. One of the main policy objectives of the World Bank in reforming the energy sector of developing countries has been the need to establish tariffs for electricity and petroleum products that promote economic efficiency. Each country has had a different pace of reform, and little or no data have been produced in regard to comparative energy prices. This paper provides the results of a World Bank survey carried out with the help of local government agencies. This first cross-country comparison of energy prices in Asia provides information on the status of recent electricity and petroleum product prices, as well as time series in a number of countries. The information will be useful for Asian countries in analyzing the varied tariff reform structures and their changes over time in other parts of the continent. The analysis would facilitate the design of appropriate pricing policies and sector reform.
