This patent describes a solvent stimulation method for producing viscous oil from a formation via at least one horizontal wellbore. The method comprises: filling the horizontal wellbore with a first fluid which comprises a solvent of a predetermined density; injecting into the wellbore a second fluid having a density greater than the solvent which second fluid displaces upwardly the solvent from the wellbore causing it to penetrate into the formation; ceasing the injection of the second fluid and allowing the solvent to remain in contact with and penetrate the formation for a time sufficient to mix with the viscous oil thereby reducing its viscosity; and producing the fluids and oils of reduced viscosity to the surface.
