Title: Spectroscopy of /sup 213/At, /sup 212/Po, and /sup 210/Pb following /sup 208/Pb+/sup 7/Li

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)

The bombardment of /sup 208/Pb by /sup 7/Li ions has been used to study the properties of excited states in /sup 213/At, /sup 212/Po, and /sup 210/Pb. In-beam measurements with Ge(Li), intrinsic Ge, and Si surface barrier detectors of ..cap alpha..-decay excitation functions, ..cap alpha..-..gamma.. coincidences, ..gamma..-..gamma.. coincidences, ..gamma..-ray angular distributions, and pulsed-beam-..gamma.. timing were made to establish decay schemes, level energies, ..gamma..-ray multipolarities, spin-parity assignments, and isomeric lifetimes. Excited states with spins up to 19/2 h in /sup 213/At and 6 h in /sup 212/Po were identified. The mean lifetimes of the 1272-keV 8/sup +/ and 1193-keV 6/sup +/ states in /sup 210/Pb were measured to be 225(22) and 30(10) nsec, respectively. These lifetimes imply B(E2) values of 51(12) e/sup 2/ fm/sup 4/ for the 8/sup +/ state and 308(115) e/sup 2/ fm/sup 4/ for the 6/sup +/ state. The /sup 213/At decay scheme and the /sup 210/Pb B(E2) values are compared with shell model calculations.
