Magnetohydrodynamic system and method
This patent describes an MHD generator system adapted to non-equilibrium power generation at a preselected temperature and pressure. Comprising: a cyclone combustor having: a first section for directly heating a working fluid first inlet means for introducing fuel into the first section, second inlet means for introducing an oxidizer into the first section to fire the fuel, igniting means for igniting the fuel and the oxidizer in the first section, third inlet means for introducing the first section a first quantity of a working fluid means for imparting a swirling action to the contents of the first section, first outlet means for collecting and removing the non-gaseous oxidation products driven against the inside surface of the first section, a second downstream from the first section, fourth inlet means for introducing into the second section a second quantity of the working fluid swirling in a direction opposite to the swirling direction in the first section; and second outlet means for delivering heated working fluid; an MHD generator for generating electricity; and a nozzle disposed between the second outlet means of the cyclone combustor and the MHD generator for supplying heated working fluid form the cyclone combustor to the MHD generator.
