A study was made of the integro-differential equation ..mu..dpsi/dx(x, ..mu..)+psi(x, ..mu..) = -infinity..integral..+infinitypsi(x, ..nu..)psi(..nu..)d..nu.. +f(X, ..mu..) (01) it describes neutron transport in a slab with isotropic scattering. With the help of the existing theory of convolution equations solutions of various boundary value problems are obtained. The auxiliary functions appearing in these solutions are shown to satisfy certain X- and Y-equations. A rational approximation method for the computation of these X- and Y-functions is explored.
