The author`s firm first began using triple-deck multizone units in place of traditional VAV systems on the Texas State Capitol restoration. Since the completion of that project design in early 1991, the author has used triple-deck multizone units in the Harris County Courts Building in Houston, one of the most hot and humic climates in the United States, as well as in several other facilities. This article will discuss the adoption of ASHRAE Standard 62, its effects on VAV systems, and how triple-deck multizone units offer an alternative system to cooling in hot and humid climates.
