Evaluating soil acidity and liming materials

Acidity is a serious soil fertility problem which reduces crop yields in western Oregon. Many fertilizer materials have an acidifying effect on soils. Several fertilizer materials have an acidifying effect on soils. Several fertilizer materials are tabulated and their potential for acidification is evaluated. Methods for measuring active and reserve soil acidity are described. Methods for estimating lime requirement are outlined, and the characteristics of available liming materials are described.
