High-temperature strength and fracture toughness of Y2O3-partially-stabilized ZrO2/Al2O3 composites

Journal Article · · J. Am. Ceram. Soc.; (United States)
The temperature dependence of bending strength, fracture toughness, and Young's modulus of composite materials fabricated in the ZrO/sub 2/(Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/)-Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ system were examined. The addition of Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ enhanced the high-temperature strength. Isostatically hot-pressed, 60 wt pct ZrO/sub 2/ (2 mol pct Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/)/40 40 wt pct Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ exhibited an extremely high strength 1000 MPa, at 1000 C. 12 references.
