A comparison of SOLCEL II and TRNSYS pv systems simulations with operational results of a pv residential facility

The Florida Solar Energy Center's photovoltaic residence has been operational with a 5 kWp roof-mounted array since December, 1980. The measured performance of this array is compared here with the simulated performance on hourly and daily bases. For the simulations, the photovoltaic array was modeled using computer codes SOLCEL II and TRNSYS Version 11.1. System specific (i.e., the details of the array) and measured hourly weather data were used as inputs in the simulations for the selected four days with varying insolation, ranging from clear and bright day to mostly cloudy day. Specifically, the measured values of hourly array power output and cell temperature and daily array energy output are compared with the predicted corresponding quantities from the simulations of SOLCEL II and TRNSYS on the selected four days.
