Curves of the rise of Pb I line absorption (283. 3 nm) and an estimate of the collision cross section for atomic lead and neon
The growth curves of line absorption (A/sub L/) of Pb I at 283.3 nm in a broad range of temperatures (T = 773--1133 K) for two lead samples, enriched with /sup 206/Pb (92.2%) and /sup 208/Pb (97.2%) isotopes, respectively, were calculated and studied experimentally under conditions of saturated lead vapor. A significant influence of the lead isotope composition on the position of the growth curve A/sub L/ = f(T/sup -1/) in the transition region has been shown. From the experimental results an estimate of the collision cross section of atomic lead and neon in a lamp with a hollow cathode sigma/sub x/(1.7 +- 0.5) x 10/sup -14/ cm/sup 2/ has been carried out. The obtained value of sigma/sub x/ is comparable with the data in the literature.
