Surface modes of a plane symmetric dielectric waveguide (media with losses)

The surface modes of a plane symmetric dielectric waveguide with losses are investigated. It is shown that surface HE- (H-) modes do not have energy flux across the boundary, i.e., they are identical to guided modes. For EH- (E-) surface modes the energy flux across the boundary is small (quasiguided modes) in the case of weakly absorbing materials; guided EH- (E-) modes are quasisurface waves. A computational algorithm is proposed for obtaining the solutions.
