Refractory: energy-saving tips

Ways are suggested to cut down on energy wasted when operating a furnace. Heat is lost when the furnace door is open. Scheduling of loads to be fed into the furnace is one way of shortening the time the door is open. In some furnaces, much heat is lost heating up fixtures. Supporting jigs and fixtures should be designed for a minimum heat capacity and for minimum mass. But the most important ways to save energy in a cycling furnace is using ceramic fiber insulation. Besides savings energy, this will mean shorter reheat periods and the low heat storage factor permits a thinner refractory lining in the furnace, which may enable the furnace to heat more product per cycle.
