Refinery savings with the Amine Guard ST system
Mobil Oil Corporation has successfully implemented the Amine Guard ST system at its 100,000 B/D refinery in Paulsboro, NJ. It is a licensed process optimization technology developed by Union Carbide's Engineering Products and Processes Department. Its application is in alkanolamine systems, for sweetening both gas and liquid hydrocarbon streams. The cornerstone of this technology is a patented corrosion inhibition system, which allows considerable energy savings, capacity enhancement, and corrosion protection. Energy savings are estimated at over $500,000 per year. Corrosion is monitored by both weight loss coupons and corrosometers, and the rate of metal loss is below 4 mils per year (MPY). System operation is very stable, with low solvent losses, no foaming tendency or carryover.
