Data obtained from aerial monitoring of plumes from natural-draft cooling towers enable accurate plume rise and persistence prediction based on meteorological conditions. During the two and one-half year study, only two environmental effects were found. The visible plumes sometimes cause noticeable shadowing on the ground, and on ten occasions very light snow fell from the plumes and reached the ground. Other postulated effects, such as ground fogging and icing, were not found. (PCS)
