Resistive instabilities of a weakly collisional tokamak plasma

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Plasma Phys. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

The resistive modes (the g and tearing modes) of a weakly collisional tokamak plasma are analyzed. At low electron--ion collision rates, the passing-particle effects are the most important. The ranges of the parameter eta = d lnT/sub 0//d lnn/sub 0/ (T/sub 0/ and n/sub 0/ are the plasma temperature and density, respectively) in which an instability can occur are very different from those predicted by the model of a cylindrical plasma column.
